AKA: Stag's Leap Winery, Napa, CA

Structure Type: built works - dwellings - houses

Designers: [unspecified]

Dates: constructed 1893

The Chases started the Stags Leap Winery in 1893. Mrs. Frances Grange purchased the property from the Chase Family in 1913; she ran the acreage as a working ranch and as a resort. She built some guest cottages that surrounded the main house.

Minnie Mizner Chase was the daughter of California State Senator and later U.S. Ambassador, Lansing B. Mizner; she married Lieutenant Horace Blanchard Chase in 1888. The Chase House (or "Manor House" as it is now referred on the winery) was a masonry structure of uncoursed ashlar masonry. A very notable feature was the round turret with its castellated top.
