Notes:
Alpha Beta's own experience with self-service dates back to 1910, when it opened its first store in Pomona and converted the same store to self-service in 1912. In July 1932, Alpha Beta leased the Buick Garage, with an area of some 12,000 square feet, in Pomona and started a real Super Market under the name, 'Pomona." In October of the same year, it built another 12,000-square-foot market in Santa Ana, operating under the name Orange County Market. This same market, although remodeled several times, continues to operate successfully as a modern Super Market. The one at Pomona had been replaced by three new Supers." (p. 25)
