"Obituary. Wayne McAllister died March 22 [2000] in Arcadia after falling and striking his head; age 92. The noted California architect was responsible for a number of carhop restaurants as well as classier eateries such as Lawry's, Richlor's, Stears for Steaks, the Los Feliz Brown Derby and Atwater Village's Tam-O-Shanter. McAllister grew up in San Diego and moved to Los Angeles as Prohibition came to an end. Throughout the 30s and 40s, he helped to define the Moderne architectural style and the 'coffee shop modern' (Googie) style of the 50s. He worked as an architect until 1956 when he turned to other pursuits."
