Principal Sherman Day, Engineer, San Francisco, CA, 1863- . His office was located in Room #57 of the Montgomery Block in San Francisco. This building, originally known as the Washington Building (1854) was a central business location for much of the 19th century in the city.

Parents

His father, Jeremiah Day, (born 08/03/1773 in Washington, CT-d. 08/22/1867 in New Haven, CT), was a well-known scholar, an expert in mathematics and astronomy, who became the President of Yale College between 1817 and 1846. Jermiah wed twice, first to Martha Sherman (d. 04/04/1806 in CT), who died at age 26, two months after giving birth to her one son, Sherman. She was the daughter of the Rhode Island lawyer and politician, Roger Sherman and his wife, Martha Prescott Sherman. This first marriage occurred in 01/1805. Jeremiah then married Olivia Jones, (d. 01/11/1850), the daughter of Daniel Jones and Olive Tinker of Hartford, CT, on 09/24/1811.

Sherman Day was the only child of Jeremiah and Martha. Jeremiah would have six children with Olivia Tinker Day:Martha Day, (born 02/05/1813 in New Haven, CT-d. 12/02/1833), Jeremiah Day, (born 07/01/1815 in New Haven, CT-d. 02/17/1816 in New Haven, CT), Henry Day (born 11/04/1817 in New Haven, CT-d. 02/17/1840 in New Haven, CT), Elizabeth Day Thacher, (born 12/24//1820 in New Haven, CT-d. 05/18/1858 in New Haven, CT), Mary Day, (born 11/05/1823-d. 03/28/1829 in New Haven, CT), and Olivia Day Beecher, (born 09/24/1826 in New Haven, CT-d 08/19/1853).
