Sumner Shannon Sollitt joined the Sumner Sollitt Company upon graduation from Dartmouth College in 1923.

President, Sumner Sollitt Company, Chicago, IL, 1930-1955. He led the firm following his father's premature death at age 57 in 12/1930. Sollitt was also the head of several other firms, including the Sumner Sollitt Company of Texas, Sollitt Overseas Construction Company, Country Stores, Incorporated, and the Floraman Development Company.

His father was Sumner Sollitt (1873-1930), President and Treasurer of the Sumner Sollitt Company, a large construction company in Chicago, IL. His mother was Grace Shannon Sollitt (born 11/22/1873 in Ogle County, IL).

His sisters were Elanette Sollitt Marks (born c. 1898 in IL), and Grace Harriett Sollitt (born c. 1907 in IL).

Spouse

Sumner Shannon Sollitt married twice. He first wed Louise Marshall, on 06/24/1925. They divorced in 1949.

He then married Bettye Herb Nye, on 11/30/1949.

Children

Like his father, Sumner Shannon Sollitt had three children. With his first wife Louise Marshall, he had Sumner Marshall Sollitt, Sally Shannon Sollitt, and Arthur Marshall Sollitt.

With his second wife, he became step-father to Judy Nye, Nancy Nye, Sally Nye.
