Upon the death of Rochefort in 1859, Stymus left to form his own company with Rochefort and Scarren's General Foreman, Gustave Pottier. Partner, Pottier and Stymus Manufacturing Company, New York, NY, 1859-1888. In 1879, the New York City Directory listed Stymus as the Vice-President of the company operated at 375 Lexington Avenue. Relocation

William Pierre Stymus, Sr., was born in New York, NY c. 1830, and spent his life making furniture in the city. In 1867, he operated cabinet making shops at 623 Broadway and 162 Mercer Street. His residence was located at 619 7th Avenue. (See Trow's New City Directory, 1867-1868, p. 1004)

According to the 1870 US Census, Stymus resided in Ward 22 District 7 of New York City, and had a personal estate worth $15,000. Two years later, he resided at 672 7th Avenue in New York, NY. (See New York City Directory, 1872, p. 1175.)

From at least 1876 until 1879, he resided at 1518 Broadway. (See Goulding´s New York City Directory for 1876-77, p. 1385 and New York City Directory, 1879, p. 1424.)

In 1889, William Stymus, Sr. and Jr. resided at 48 West 59th Street. (See New York City Directory, 1889, p. 1944.) In 1891 and 1892, they resided at the Hotel Metropole at 147 West 43rd Street. (See New York City Directory, 1891, p. 1338 and New York City Directory, 1892,, p. 1390.) An upscale establishment in the 1890s, the Hotel Metropole was the first New York hotel to feature running water in each room.

In 1870, he was married to Eliza Stymus (born c. 1837 in NY).
