Born in Rockford, WA, Ellinger lived in Havre, MT, at the age of 32. He relocated to CA, and worked in Oakland, CA, by at least 1928. He and his family lived at 1970 38th Avenue according to the Oakland, California, City Directory, 1928 (p. 594). He lived in Washtucna, WA, later in his life, but died in Spokane, WA. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland.


He married Mae Viola Rinker (1890-1980). Mae had been born in MT. Her parents came from IA (father) and IN (mother).


He and Mae had three children, Gladys Ethel Ellinger Pratt (1912-2008) and Howard George Ellinger (1914-1994) and Katherine M. (born c. 1921 in CA).

Biographical Notes

The birth date inscribed on his family headstone (1885) differed from the hand-written birth information included on his World War II draft registration form that stated his birthdate to have been 05/24/1886. Ellinger, at age 56, stood 5-foot, 10-and-1/2-inches tall, and had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and gray hair.
