Professional History

President, John F. Shea Plumbing Company, Portland, OR, 1881-present. Later known as the John F. Shea Construction Company, Incorporated. Shea expands his business with his sons Charles, Gilbert and Edmund. They become active participants in large-scale public works projects, such as Portland, OR's Willamette River Seawall, and the Mokelumne Water Pipeline in CA. The firm also gained experience as a contractor in CA on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam and Parker Dam. The Shea Company rapidly diversified after World War II, into other states and regions of the country. It assisted in the construction of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART) and the subway for the Washington (DC) Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. In 2011, one division of the Shea Family conglomerate, Shea Homes, maintained nine divisions in seven states (WA, CO, CA, AZ, NC, SC, and FL), erecting various types of residences and master-planned communities. Offices were located in Phoenix, AZ, Seattle, WA, Las Vegas, NV, Denver, CO, Orlando, FL, York-Lancaster, SC, Raleigh-Durham, NC, and Charlotte, NC, and eight offices throughout CA, including Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey Bay Area. Los Angeles County/Ventura County, Central Coast, Riverside County/San Bernardino County, Orange County, and San Diego.
