Charles Frederick Mau was born in Germany although the date of his birth is not completely clear. The Oakland Wiki listed his birthdate at 1838, but it was documented as c. 1848, according to 1898 voter records for Oakland, CA. This 1898 document noted that he had been naturalized an American citizen in the District Court of San Francisco on 11/04/1876.
