His mother's maiden name was Mulheisen. A Frank Lewis Hope (b. Michigan 10/01/1873-d. San Diego County, CA, 03/09/1943) is recorded in the California Death Index, perhaps Hope's father.

Hope married in 1925.

Three children, one son, Frank L. Hope, Jr., also became an architect and joined his father's firm in 1953.
