Apprentice, Warren H. Manning, Landscape Architect, Boston, MA, 1932-1934. Manning (1860-1938) was an employee of Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr., (1822-1903) from 1888 to 1896, and then became a collaborator with his sons, John Charles Olmsted (1852-1920) and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., (1870-1957). Manning was a founding member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

Designer, US Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), Concord, NH, c. 1938-1939.

Designer, United States Housing Authority (USHA), Washington, DC, c. 1939-1940. In this office of the USHA, he worked for landscape architect and urban planner Elbert Peets (1886-1968).

Principal, Dan Kiley, Architect, Franconia, NH, c. 1943. He became a Registered Architect in the State of NH in 1943.

Director of Design Staff, US Army, Corps of Engineers, Office of Strategic Services, Presentations Branch, 1943-1945. According to a Cultural Landscape Foundation website: "At the end of the war in Europe, Kiley was assigned the task of laying out the courtroom for the war crimes trials at Nuremberg."
