Relocation

His parents split up in 1971, and the following year, she took her two sons to live with her in a commune in Rockland County, NY. After this, she relocated to California, where she resided at the Star Hill Academy of Anything, a commune located nearby to Stanford University in Woodside, CA.

His father was Howard Smith (born 12/10/1936 - d. 05/01/2014), a journalist and filmmaker, and his mother, Susan Smith, a landscape painter and designer. They divorced in 1971.

Cass Calder Smith had a younger brother, Zachary Smith.
