Essay by Tom Trimbath, published 12/19/2019. This article incorrectly stated that "In 1946 she became the first female architect in Washington State, an impressive accomplishment that led to an impressive and influential career." She was not the first licensed woman architect in Washington State. That distinction went to Elizabeth Ayer (1897-1987). She was, rather, the first woman architect registered after World War II.
