Notes:
In 1987, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Asian Art Commission approved a plan to rehabilitate the Old Main Library as the new home of the Asian Art Museum. In 1996, the Asian Art Commission hired Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum and Gae Aulenti of Milan for the rehabiltation design; Page & Turnbull is the historical architect. Our role includes survey and analysis of the existing building, evaluation of the new design, consultations on planning and funding reviews and architectural design for sensitive historic spaces and materials.
