Robert MacKay Fripp

Active 1888-1914

Firm Notes

Fripp traveled widely throughout the British Empire and relocated his practice a great deal. He initially set up an architectural practice in Auckland, NZ, between 1887 and 1888, then moved to Vancouver, BC, where he worked in partnership with his brother, Charles, before working on his own between 1889 and 1892 in Vancouver. Between 1892 and 1893, he practiced with Henry W. Mills (1864-1937) in Vancouver, before the latter returned to Great Britain. He worked in the cities of Vernon and Kamloops, BC, between 1892 and 1986, when, during the Depression that followed 1893, he relocated back to Auckland, NZ, where he restarted his practice there between 1896 and 1898. Fripp came back to Vancouver a second time between 1898 and 1901, before sailing back England. He then alighted in Toronto, ON, between c. 1903 and 1905, when he shifted his practice to Los Angeles, CA. He worked in the rapidly expanding Los Angeles area for three years, 1905 until 1908. He returned a third time to Vancouver in 1908, where he worked until about 1914.
