This Hellman House predated 1883; Herman W. Hellman (09/25/1843-10/19/1906) and his wife, Ida Heimann Hellman (b. 10/29/1850), raised their family here. Irving Herman Hellman, Sr., a banker and reinforced concrete engineer, was born in this house 05/10/1883. Herman W. and his brother, Isais Hellman, traveled from Bavaria to Southern California in 1858, and rapidly established Hellman, Temple and Company, the earliest financial institution in Southern California.

This house was demolished for the construction of the H.W. Hellman Office Building in 1902-1903.
