Beginning in 1912, book deposits could be made first at the Montera Pharmacy in Rainier Beach and, later, after the pharmacy burned in 11/1917, at the Rainier Beach Dry Goods store at 9262 1/2 57th Ave. South; operations at the dry goods store began in 1921; cooperating merchants received 1 cent for each deposited library book that they took in. The third deposit station was opened in a vacant storefront at 9267 57th Avenue South nearby to the local Rainier Beach interurban trolley stop on 03/05/1928. Shortages of funds during the Depression caused the cutback of hours in 1930 to 2 days per week; the deposit station closed 01/26/1932.
