This church occupied a lot bounded by Steiner, Bush, Pierce and Pine Streets purchased by the Dominican Order for $6,000 in 1860.

Building History

This brick church, replacing a smaller wooden facility erected in 1870, accommodated Saint Dominic's rapidly growing parish. They both occupied portions of a lot purchased in 1863 by the Dominican Order at Steiner, Bush, Pierce and Pine Streets.

Demolition

Destroyed in the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 04/18-19/1906; some of the art from the second church--the crucifixion group on the rood beam and the Pieta and the Stations of the Cross--was reintegrated into the third.
