Building History

Donald Winkelmann (1930-1987), an important designer within the NBBJ firm in the 1960s, designed this university building. William J. Bain, Jr., (1930-2019), was also credited by the NBBJ.com web site with being a designer on Cordiner Hall. (See NBBJ.com, "People: We cultivate a practice of leaders: a collaboration among optimistic, empowered experts," accessed 06/12/2019.) According to historian Marga Rose Hancock, "He had his first institutional project beginning in 1966 as NBBJ Partner in Charge on Cordiner Hall at Whitman College, Walla Walla." (See Marga Rose Hancock, HistoryLink.org, "Bain, William James Jr. (1930-2019), Architect," published 12/30/2009, accessed 06/12/2019.)
