This was the second location of the Lowman and Hanford Stationery and Printing Company in Pioneer Square; the company moved its business here following the Great Fire of 06/06/1889 that destroyed its previous store/manufacturing facility.

The original two-story building was added onto in 1892 to create a four-story structure. Construction occurred around the original plant, and production did not cease.
