The Lowman and Hanford Stationery and Printing Company experienced rapid growth between its founding in 1882 and 1900. Growth was especially rapid in the 1890s, when the firm expanded its post-fire location at 616 1st Avenue twice, once in c. 1892, and again in c. 1899.
In 1898-1899, another three floors were added to the existing Lowman and Hanford Store at 616 1st Avenue.
