The house was built originally by Mexican landowner, Juan Maria Osuna, on his 8,825-acre rancho, Rancho San Dieguito;
The architect, Lilian Rice, renovated one of two adobe ranch houses on the former rancho of Juan Maria Osuna for the singer, Bing Crosby, in 1932; Crosby also purchased 50 acres of land to create his estate;
