Japanese Garden Bel Air; Bellagio Road west of Stone Canyon Road

Original Spanish-styled garden designed by A.E. Hanson for Harry Calendar in 1923; Nagao Sakurai designed this new Japanese garden in 1961, with Dudley Frisgett; Kazuo Nakamura Los Angeles acted as contractor; garden was donated to UCLA (across Sunset Boulevard) in 1965; a serious flood in 1969 caused damage to the Carter Garden, and the Friends of the UCLA Gardens engaged Professor Koichi Kawana, Principal Architecture Associate and Lecturer in Japanese Art, Architecture and Landscape Design at the University of California, to do the restoration;
