San Francisco architect G. Albert Lansburgh designed the Golden Gate Theatre and the nearby Warfield Theatre at about the same time, 1921 and 1922, respectively.
Theatre historian David Naylor, in his American Picture Palaces The Architecture of Fantasy, (New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, 1981, p. 216), listed the Golden Gate Theatre as having 2,844 seats.
