Existed prior to 1888; a portion of the hotel served as the local public library from 1896-1900; according to the Great Register of Los Angeles County for 1888, John Brunjes was 44 in that year and his listed occupation was hotel keeper; he resided in Gladstone, CA, (the previous name for Azusa); originally from Germany, Brunjes became a naturalized citizen in 1871 at the San Francisco U.S. District Court;
