Harvey and Minnie Ortner opened this coffee shop as Harvey's Broiler in 1958. In 2008, the restaurant occupied a 90,000-square-foot property owned by Christos Smyrniotis.

Pronounced eligible for the California State Register of Historical Resources in November 2002;

Threatened with demolition, 2002-2004; signage and other elements were destroyed in 2003; in 01/2007, the owner, Christos Smyrniotis, a former cook for the original owners, illegally began to bulldoze the property. He had partially destroyed the property when he was stopped. In 2008, plans were finalized for a Bob's Big Boy franchise owned by Jim Louder to take over the property and restore the building.
