The great architects Charles Eames (1907-1978) and Eero Saarinen (1910-1961), colleagues at Cranbrook Institute c. 1940, collaborated on a two main projects: the "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" Competition staged by New York's Museum of Modern Art (1940) and the Entenza Case Study House #09. They designed it for John Entenza (1905–1984), the editor of Arts and Architecture magazine, the West Coast's most influential architectural periodical, and the sponsor of the Case Study House Program.

In 2009, the Entenza House was placed on the market with an asking price of $14 million.
