Gardner Field occupied land 9 miles southeast of Taft;

Gardner Field was originally a U.S. Army Air Froces training field authorized in 1940 and opened the following year; Gardner Field was a small Army Air Forces training field authorized in 1940 and activated in 1941; the Air Technical Service Command administered the field and flew BT-13 & PT-17 aircraft for primary training of pilots;

The field was decommissioned after World War II, before 1964.
