Building History

In 1850, James B. Weir, a grocer and commission merchant, operated a store on Clay Street, near Montgomery Street. An ad in The San Francisco Directory by Charles P. Kimball, September 1, 1850, [San Francisco: Journal of Commerce Press, 1850], p. 132, indicated that Weir “has constantly in store, and receiving daily, fresh supplies of goods suitable for traders. Also, ship and Miners’ stores.”
