Overview

This narrow, highly efficient residence, designed by a married couple, Tine Beebe and Buzz Yudell, both of whom were distinguished designers, occupied a constrained, 60 x 150-foot lot in Santa Monica, CA. It proved to be a strong counterpoint to their previous villa located on a hillside in fire-prone Malibu, CA, with expanisve ocean views. They relocated to urban Santa Monica to reduce their commute into work and other cultural events.

Building History

Tina Beebe (born c. 1948) and Robert J. "Buzz" Yudell (born 10/02/1947) purchased a 1924 revival styled house on this Georgina Avenue lot in 2007. This property cost $2.75 million, but they chose to demolish it and create a residence closer to the Moore Ruble Yudell Architects & Planners office in Santa Monica. Previously, the couple had owned a large and well-known, hillside villa on 1.3 acres above Malibu, CA. (See Sandy Keenan, New York Times.com, "Aspiring to Nothing," published 01/08/2014, accessed 05/30/2023.)

This net-zero, energy-efficient dwelling contained 4 bedrooms and 4 baths, and was occupied for about two years by Yudell and Beebe . They occupied this Santa Monica dwelling for about four years, between 2013 and 2017.

In 08/2017, Beebe and Yudell put the residence on the marketwith an asking price of $7.4 million. (See The Real Deal.com, "Sustainable Santa Monica home with no AC lists for $7.4M," published 08/30/2017, accessed 05/17/2023.)
