Building History

Reynolds Hall served as the prime library on campus between 1934 and 1957.

Alteration

A one-floor, concrete, book-storage annex was added to Reynolds Hall sometime between 1934 and 1957. (See Whitman College.edu, "Buildings," accessed 09/07/2021.) Whitman College President Chester Maxey dismissed this small addition as "a hideous concrete box." (See Whitman College.edu, "Reynolds Library Annex," accessed 09/07/2021. This quote came from G. Thomas Edwards, Tradition in a Turbulent Age: Whitman College, 1925-1975, [Walla Walla, WA: Whitman College, 2001], p. 273.)
