Pasadena resident Anne Twohey commissioned architects Strange and Gottschalk to design for her a residence in Pasadena, CA, c. 1888. The architects hired a contractor name Tittle to erect the building.

Building Notes

A court case that was decided at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County was retried before the California Supreme Court on 12/04/1889. (See Davies-Henderson Lumber Company v. Gottschalk et al., (81 Cal 641, Supreme Court of California, 12/04/1889) This case concerned a lien filed by the Davis-Henderson Lumber Company against the property owned by Anne Twohey for the cost of lumber to build a house costing less than $1,000. The architects, Strange and Gottschalk contracted independently with a builder named Tittle to erect the house, and obtained materials from the Davies-Henderson Lumber Company for the purpose. The lumber company wanted to know who it could hold responsible for the lumber payment. (See Davies-Henderson Lumber Co. v. Gottschalk et al., Pacific Reporter, August 22, 1889-February 27, 1890, vol 22, [Minneapolis, MN: West Publishing, 1890], pp. 860-863.)
