This is an approximate address for the Byrne House. The San Bernardino City Directory, 1891, (p. 49), indicated that it was located on the south side of 5th Street, between E and F Streets.

Overview

This house was built c. 1890 for Matthew Byrne, a capitalist, who owned the Byrne Building on the south side of 3rd Street between D and E Streets. (See San Bernardino, California, City Directory, 1891, p. 49.) The Canadian-born architect, Thomas H. Goff designed the Byrne House, as he noted in a classified advertisement in theSan Bernardino Daily Courier, vol. 7, no. 150, 04/05/1890. p. 1.
