This first, purpose-built library in the City of Bothell opened in 1969. Its cost was covered by federal grant money, a local bond issue and funds from the King County Library System (KCLS).

Building History

The City of Bothell has had library service since 1905, when a public lending library opened in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Hall. After that, other private libraries functioned until 1925, the last located in Carlton Ericksen's General Store on Main Street. By 1925, the citizens of Bothell rented space in the both the American Hotel and later the Bothell Hotel for use by the public as a library. Other ad hoc spaces were obtained after the 1920s.

In 1946, the City of Bothell contracted with the King County Library to provide books to their makeshift library. This arrangement continued until 1969, when this first dedicated library was opened as part of the KCLS. It was superceded by a second library opened in 1995 at 18215 98th Avenue NE.(See King County Library System [KCLS], "About Bothell Library," accessed 05/30/2018.)
