Designed by Edward C. "Chuck" Bassett and Lawrence S. Doane of the San Francisco Office of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill; Lloyd Jones Brewer and Associates were Associated Architects; at 71-stories, or 970-feet, the Wells Fargo Plaza is the second-tallest building in the city, behind the Chase Tower at 75-stories and 1,002 feet; Duane Bradshaw Architects, Inc. (Houston), acted as the Project Manager, Contract Document Developer and Construction Administrator for the Allied Bank Building.

Due to a bank takeover, this skyscraper was also known as the "Wells Fargo Plaza."
