Overview

In 08/1903, the Los Angeles Herald noted that W.D. Campbell would build four speculative houses next door to one another all on Grand Avenue. He commissioned Garrett and Bixby, Architecs, to design and supervise the work, and Campbell would build the four. The Hearad notice stated: "W.D. Campbell, Nos. 1151, 1151 1/2, 1153, and 1153 1/2 South Grand avenue, two-story flats, four flats of six rooms each, $6,000; Garrett & Bixby, architects; W.D. Campbell, builder." (See "Buildings Planned for the Future," Los Angeles Herald, no. 299, 08/02/1903, part III, p. 1.)
