In 1907, McDonald and Dean were one of six firms competing to design the new San Mateo County Courthouse #4 in Redwood City, CA. Other competitors included Martens and Coffey, Normond W. Mohr, Will D. Shea, Preston and Seehorn, and the eventual winner, Glenn Allen.
