Overview

This building served as the headquarters for Well Fargo and Company's banking and express services divisions. In 1896, Wells Fargo's President, John Joseph Valentine, Sr., (1840-1901) had his office in this building, as did Homer S. King (1841-1919), the Treasurer. (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1896, p. 1607.) Valentine served as president from 1892 until his death in 1901. King was a Director of Wells Fargo and Company from 1893-1905.
