Overview

In 1888, the Exchange Block Company operated the Carlton Hotel, utilizing Thomas J. Fleming as its manager. Hepburn and Company managed the Carlton Restaurant that operated within the hotel at this time.

Building Notes

The Italianate hotel was a three-story, bilaterally symmetrical block with five sets of bay windows across its front facade. A tower emerged from the central bay which at the first floor had two arched openings admitting hotel guests. Windows were round arched, with hoods, and the cornice line was ornate with ironwork lining the parapet.
