Overview

This was the first building designed by the prolific Franciscan monk Adrian Wewer on the West Coast. Wewer would design several significant Roman Catholic facilities in CA, OR, and WA, including the Immaculate Heart of Mary Orphanage, Watsonville, CA, (1889), the Saint Elizabeth Church, Friary and School, Fruitvale, CA, (1893). the Saint Francis Church, Sacramento, CA, (1894), Saint Bonaventure Church, School, Monastery, San Francisco, CA, (1898), Saint Anthony Seminary, Santa Barbara, CA, (1901), Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watsonville, CA, (1901), Saint Joseph's Church #1, Los Angeles, CA, (1901-1903), and the Saint Joseph School, Los Angeles, CA, (1906). Wewer completed approximately 18 projects for the Catholic Church in these three states.
