Building History

An earlier Tabernacle Baptist Church operated at the corner of 11th Avenue and Jefferson Street in Seattle, WA, in 1896. Rev. S.C. Ohrum was its pastor. (See "In the Churches,"Seattle Times, 08/08/1896, p.3.) On 08/08/1896, the Seattle Times listed seven Baptist congregations active in Seattle. They included:North Seattle Baptist church, Norwegian-Danish Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, Swedish Baptist Church, Market Street Baptist Church and the 1st Baptist Church.

The Tabernacle Baptist Church was in operation in 07/1905 at the corner of 15th Avenue North and Harrison Street. (See "In the Churches Tomorrow," Seattle Times, 07/29/1905, p. 7.) At this time, it was one of two Baptist churches in the City of Seattle, the other being the North Baptist Church.
