Val J. Powelson, the architect for Palm Springs's Indian Wells Country Club, designed this residence for Leo S. Maranz, founder of the Tastee-Freez chain of drive-in ice cream stands. It occupied property on the Tamarisk Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.

The house was notable for its Googie hyperbolic paraboloid shaped roof. Because of its outstanding sculptural roof, the Maranz House has been featured as a backdrop in many advertising layouts.
