Building Notes

Partners Birkel and Zimmerle served as proprietors of the Orpheum Cafe between 1901-1904; one partner may have been Albert M. Birkel, who, in 1901, operated a wine, liquor and cigar store with Fred W. Dickman, at 1500-1504 1st Avenue. David Zimmerle, who bartended at the Germania Cafe in 1901, ran it alone from 1904-1905, and again operated it as a partnership, Wilson and Zimmerle, with Harry D. Wilson, from 1906-1910. Wilson took over its operation alone from 1910-1912, selling it in either 1912 or 1913 to Conrad Wening.
