The address of the Golden Rule Bazaar in 03/1889 was 820 Front Street (later renamed 1st Avenue.)

Building History

The Golden Rule Bazaar was an early department store in business c. 1885 on Front Street in Seattle, WA. It was located across the street from the Frye Opera House (1884) that burned in the Great Seattle Fire of 06/06/1889.

A Seattle Post-Intelligencer advertisement of 03/01/1889 listed the operator of the Golden Rule Bazaar to have been E. Lobe and Company. This advertisement listed the address as 820 Front Street.

After this catastrophic blaze, it continued to operate at 906-908 Front Street (later 1st Avenue) in 1890. (It placed an advertisement on page 559 of the Seattle City Directory of 1890.) It is probable that it reopened in a new building erected on the same site. The Golden Rule Bazaar continued to operate in 1901 with J. Bornstein as the President and Philip J. Bornstein, Secretary and Treasurer.

Demolition

The Golden Rule Bazaar building was demolished.
