New York architect Edward Durrell Stone (1902-1978), an architect who hobnobbed with the international social elite, developed an international practice from the 1940s-1970s. He designed the Scripps Green Hospital, La Jolla, CA, in 1974, and earlier, the Eisenhower Hospital, Rancho Mirage, CA (1970), the General Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, CA, (1962) and the large Stanford Medical Center, Stanford, CA, (1959).
