Bauhaus, a cafe located in the Melrose Building, first occupied its space in c. 1990.

This building was threatened with demolition in 2012. The Madison Development Company agreed on 05/08/2012 to save the this building, the Melrose Building and the neighboring 1530 Melrose Avenue Building and Timken Roller Bearing Building, and incorporate these historic edifices into its new 7-story, 115,000-square-foot retail/residential building. This new development would be built behind and above portions of the 1530 Melrose Avenue, Timken and Melrose Buildings.
