The City of Bakersfield contracted with architect O.L. Clark to design this 4,242-square-foot, Beaux-Arts Classical Revival library, notable for its projecting portico with paired Corinthian columns. In form, it followed typical symmetrical floor plans used by contemporary Carnegie-financed libraries.

The Baker Branch Library was retrofitted in the 1980s, and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
