This station replaced a two-floor brick fire house (1904) also designed by local architect Charles Howatt Biggar (1882-1946). The 1939 station had a five-bay wing to house fire trucks. It was constructed using funds contributed (in large part) by the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works.
