Hans Jevne operated an early grocery store at 38 and 40 North Spring Street in Downtown, Los Angeles, CA, beginning in 1882. Jevne's operation began in a single room and had expanded by 1889 to occupy two floors of the building. Jevne pioneered home delivery of groceries using horse-drawn wagons and the use of the telephone for ordering groceries. He also was an early adopter of combustion-powered delivery wagons. His business operated until 1920.
