Building History

This house for Frederick B. Kellam and his wife, Edith, was built on the same property as the residence of the Kellam's daughter, Elizabeth (born c. 1897 in CA), and her husband, Lockwood De Forest III (1896-1949), in Santa Barbara, CA. This Kellam House was a linear ranch house design that resembled a residence that San Francisco architect William W. Wurster (1895-1973) had designed for Mrs. Sadie Gregory in Scotts Valley, CA, in 1927. A sketch plan dated 05/12/1928 is present in the University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design Documents Collection, Berkeley, CA. The design also included a rough landscape plan worked out with De Forest.
